Building a robust platform for the end-to-end management of recycling-processes data
Summary
eTracks set out to digitize the entire tire management process by creating a flexible new app
The Tire and Rubber Association of Canada incorporated eTracks Tire Management Systems to meet the needs of its members and other producers in responsibly managing and disposing of end-of-life tires in Ontario, as required by the Ontario Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act (RRCEA).
In May 2020, eTracks contacted ELEKS to request a full reengineering of an existing application called eSRP (Sustainable Recovery Platform), which tire manufacturers and producers use to meet their legislative obligations. eTracks aimed to make the app more traceable and eliminate manual transactions and reporting. They also wanted to make it easier to add new features to support growth into other regions and material types.
A robust system for managing resource recovery and recycling supply chain data
ELEKS primary goal was to help eTracks define the product’s scope and vision, create an interactive visual concept, and develop the technical solution. We worked closely with eTracks’ internal team throughout the process. As a first step, we recommended a Product Design Phase, where both teams worked together to shape the vision for the new system.
After the first phase, our team helped eTracks build its new eSRP as a progressive web application that works on both desktop and mobile devices. We used a modular architecture so the system can be updated or expanded easily as it grows or is used in new locations and business areas.
To ensure traceability and flexibility, we added new transactions and validations to spot any issues during the recycling process, such as pickup, delivery, and processing. Our Data Science team also added computer vision and AI features for optical character recognition and signature validation. We included photo validation to improve the quality of transaction data and help the internal validation team save time.
Once the system was ready, the eSRP application was released for internal user testing, along with thorough user acceptance and security testing.
eSRP launched successfully and was widely adopted
In January 2022, eTracks introduced its Sustainable Recovery Platform to more than 6,500 tire collection sites in Ontario, 100 service providers, and over 50 producers. The platform has made it easier for producers and other organizations to manage recyclable materials and meet regulatory requirements. It is also making resource recovery data more accurate and easier to audit, which helps divert more waste from landfills and supports a circular economy.

ELEKS provided outstanding and detailed analyses of our processes, and they went above and beyond to help us get a better overview of the pain points and challenges. Their analysis was extremely well performed and will help us greatly with implementing a new system in the near future.
They do work to a very high standard. They apply information engineering disciplines to the work they do, and they do understand how important it is to meet customer expectations. I think those are the things that matter most about ELEKS and that have been instrumental in their remarkable growth and success.
ELEKS successfully took our vision and processes and built a solution to meet our future needs. Now, eTracks is well positioned to enable its long-term strategic vision of aligning business processes and technology to meet tomorrow’s recycling challenges.
